Steven R. Smith, a partner in the Washington, D.C.,
office of Ober Kaler, has been selected as one of 12 “Outstanding Hospital
Lawyers – 2004” by Nightingale’s Healthcare News.
Smith was selected from a pool of national hospital lawyer nominations submitted
by colleagues and clients.
Jon M. Laria, a partner in the Baltimore office of

Ingersoll, LLP, was elected Second Vice President of the Baltimore Jewish Council
at the organization’s annual meeting. The Baltimore Jewish Council represents
area Jewish organizations and congregations on social, political and humanitarian
issues that affect Jews and the quality of life locally, nationally and globally.

T. Hall of Reston, Virginia, have been honored for their participation
in Trial Lawyers Care, the largest free legal representation program ever
undertaken, which took the cases of 9/11 victim families before the federal
government’s September 11th Victim Compensation Fund without charge.
The firm of Ober Kaler has launched the John Chandler
Baldwin Community Grants Program, a $30,000 program to aid nonprofit
organizations serving the Baltimore and Washington metropolitan areas. The
program is named in honor of the program’s outgoing chair.

The American Health Lawyers Association has named S. Allan
Adelman, senior partner of the law firm of Adelman, Sheff & Smith,
LLC, as President-elect for the organization’s 2004-2005 fiscal year.
The Honorable William D. Missouri, Administrative
Judge for the 7th Judicial Circuit and for Prince George’s County, has
been elected Vice-Chair of the National Conference of State Trial Judges.
The Board of Maryland Volunteer Lawyers Service has selected
new officers: President Jerald B. Lurie, a partner with Adelberg, Rudow,
Dorf & Hendler in Baltimore; Vice President. M. Natalie McSherry,
a partner with Whiteford, Taylor & Preston in Towson; Vice President Barron
J. Stroud, Jr., a partner with the Baltimore office of McCarter & English;
and Secretary Christopher R. Rahl, an attorney with Provident Bank.
New Board members include Yvette Bryant, a partner with Allen, Karpinski,
Bryant &
Karp in Baltimore.
